A little plain flour for rolling out the pastry

You will need.......
Chopping Board, vegetable peeler, sharp knife, small microwave-safe bowl, tablespoon, teaspoon, baking tray, wire rack, rolling pin, apple corer, pastry brush and an adult.

First - wash your hands!

1. GET AN ADULT to turn the oven onto 200oc/400oF/Gas Mark 6 and put a shelf onto the centre runner. (Aga Roasting oven - shelf on oven floor)

2. Remove the Pastry from the fridge, Sprinkle a clean flat surface with the flour and roll out the pastry into a rectangular shape until it is approximately 2-3mm thick.

3. GET AN ADULT peel the apples, you may like to try yourself if you have an adult to show you how to do, be careful, peelers are sharp. GET AN ADULT to help you use the apple corer to core the apples and then help you to cut each apple in half through the core. This be quite hard as you need to be strong to push the corer through the apple.

4. Place each apple half, flat side down onto the chopping board and GET AN ADULT to help you thinly slice each apple half, try to keep the slices together.

5. GET AN ADULT to supervise you and slice the pastry into 12 x smaller rectangles. Lightly grease the baking tray and transfer the small rectangles onto the tray. Pick up a sliced half of apple and gently spread this out so the apple half lies flat and place these in the centre of each piece of pastry

6. Place a tablespoon of apricot jam in the heatproof bowl and place in the microwave on a medium heat for 15 seconds until the jam is warm. Remove, ensuring that the bowl isn’t hot and ‘paint’ all over the apples and pastry with a pastry brush. Use the Teaspoon to sprinkle the sugar over the top of each apple tart too.

7. GET AN ADULT to put the baking tray into the centre of the oven. Bake for 15-20 minutes until they are golden brown and the apple has softened.

8. GET AN ADULT to take the buns out of the oven and lift them onto the wire rack to cool. These are lovely eaten warm out of the oven or they will keep for 2-3 days in an airtight container.
