SKILLS - Superior Knowledge by Intensive Labour Schemes is an initiative launched by the Syrian SEBC / SME Support Programme in cooperation with the European Training Foundation (ETF) and is an addition rather than an alternative to traditional higher education.

SKILLS aims to provide the business community with professionals who possess extensive business knowledge as well as practical skills through providing the youth with specific knowledge and diversified practical skills to help them perform their jobs efficiently and professionally. SKILLS can thereby contribute to the government's plans to reduce unemployment through the creation of job opportunities.
A sustainable activity, SKILLS Graduates Club “SGC” is in place. SGC is a club to keep gathering and transferring the update know-how to the graduates of SKILLS through different activities locally and to take advantage of the opportunities for cooperation and exchange of experiences with similar international institutions.

About SKILLS

SKILLS was conceptualized within the frame work of the Syrian Enterprise and Business Centre /SME Support Programme with the cooperation of the European Training Foundation (ETF) to fulfill its role in preparing potential and supplementing young talent, to enable them to fulfill their job requirements with efficiency and professionalism, helping support the national economy by decreasing unemployment, and providing companies, and organizations with professionally trained and certified personnel.
Why SKILLS?
The Syrian labour market suffers from a stark contradiction; although there are many initiatives to reduce unemployment, at the same time most institutions and companies are experiencing serious shortages of skilled labour. Many promising, young individuals are all ill-equipped to enter the labour market due to the lack of appropriate guidance and capacity building. Even those who managed to find employment discover that the information they have received is theoretical and needs to be complemented by practical skills to satisfy the requirements of the ir employers
The SKILLS concept emerged to build the skills of young people with promising potential. SKILLS aim to complement rather than replace traditional higher education. Its mission is to provide the youth with specific knowledge and diversified practical skills to help them perform their jobs efficiently and professionally. In doing this, SKILLS meets two objectives:
1. Facilitates job creation for these skills and hence reduces unemployment;
2. Provides institutions and businesses with skilled employees to enhance their own performance and that of the national economy.
Vision
Contribute to building the national economy by providing businesses and institutions with skilled professionals with a wide range of qualifications and practical experience.
Mission
To qualify and train young people and provide them with diversified skills to enable them to find a good job or start their own business.
